Trying to think of some top notch parenting tips.  Here is what I have so far:

(1) Do stuff with them.  All the time.  As in, play catch with them even though little kids are horrible at it because they will probably get better, and it is a terribly persistent example of parent/child bonding in popular media.   

(2) Try to eat dinner together every night, even though it will likely be thoroughly unenjoyable and inconvenient for every member of the family forever.  Someday you will be old and eating all alone and you’ll wish there was a kid there to scream at for dropping his fork on the floor for the 85th time. 

(3) Make sure they know the distinction between you being annoyed by/disappointed in their behavior and being annoyed by/disappointed in their existence.

(4) If they have food allergies, do not let them eat those foods.
