The goings on of the people of Cranberry

Notes

Music

When I was a kid, my parents played a ton of music, and I was basically brainwashed into thinking the stuff they liked was good, so I grew up thinking stuff like the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Tina Turner were cool.  I am not going to do that to my kids.  They have to listen to my music all the time, but it is stuff that is actually good, like Depeche Mode and the Avett Brothers.  My kids will be in touch with their emotions and learn it is okay for men to have deep feelings, like when the Avett Brothers are trying to get through “Left on Laura, Left on Lisa” live, and they are so sad they just start screaming to get through it, and have to let their beards grow super long to soak up the tears and catch the homemade moonshine that dribbles out of their mouths on one of their quiet numbers.

Still, though, they’ll probably write in their journals about how they hate me, but when I find it, I won’t scream at them- I’ll hug them and tell them I feel the exact same way, and we’ll eat some ice cream and I’ll tell them it’s okay if they hate baseball.
